New 2026 IDFPR Requirement:

As an industry professional we work physically very close to our clients. We see things that our clients may not see on their own body, whether it is on their scalp, face, back, bottom of the foot or under the finger nail. This program will help us to identify an abnormal skin condition, and suggest the client see a doctor. It’s not just “another requirement”, YOU can make a difference in someone’s life! EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES!

YOU will need to take it this year prior to the renewal deadline if you:
are renewing your license this year,
have an expired license and are filing for reinstatement
have an expired and need a refresher course
are applying for a license for the first time

How often do I need to take it?

This class is like the Domestic Violence Class, this 1 hour class is a “One & Done”, meaning you only take it once in your career.

Where do I take it & what is the cost?

The ONLY IDFPR APPROVED class is “The Skinny On Skin” and is offered online by a non-profit agency Impact Melanoma. The class is Completely FREE!

“I am here today and cancer free by the grace of God and someone who pointed out the “weird mole” that I didn’t even know I had.”

WHY THIS IS SO IMPORTANT

This is more than a class to me. In 2010, I was wearing a tank top at home when someone asked, “What’s that weird mole on your back?” That prompted me to make a doctor’s appointment. They did a biopsy, then called a few days later and asked me to come into the office. I said, “I’m super busy and don’t have time. What is it? Just tell me on the phone!” The nurse hesitated and then finally told me it was melanoma, skin cancer. I replied, “Why are you acting like it’s a big deal? It’s not like it’s ‘real’ cancer!” She said, “Oh, it is, and it’s bad. Stage 4. We are sending you to see an oncologist and a surgeon for a consultation to determine what treatment and surgeries you will need.” When I heard the word “oncologist,” I knew it was real cancer! I had a lymph node biopsy and 5 surgeries, followed by a very long recovery.

Melanoma spreads quickly and goes deep beneath the skin’s surface. My mole was only 3mm (smaller than the opening of a drinking straw), and it left me with an 8-inch scar!

How long would my melanoma have gone undetected if someone hadn’t pointed it out? Months? Years? Would I even be here today? If a 1-hour class can help me identify something abnormal on a client and quite possibly save a life, I’m all in. Sign me up! Today, I thank God I am cancer free and here to share my story!
